This hotel offers nice Japanese style ambience. The rooms were quite spacious with bedroom tatami area and a separate living room with sofas. The bathroom included a Toto toilet. The hotel also included two nice hot spring facilities, one with stone theme and the other with wood theme. Yukatas were offered too. Dinner was a Japanese-style multi course meal. The breakfast offered a selection of Japanese and Western style food items. There were more Japanese items and limited selection of western items. Therefore, breakfast might not be suitable for people who prefer western food over Japanese food. Western food included bread, eggs, sausage, and cereal etc. Japanese food was tasty and included congee, appetizers, fish, and fried food. Staff was courteous and hotel offered free drinks and snacks in a cafe.

Food and drinks in Hatori

We stayed one night at Hatori and I regret it - because it was the best stay we had in our 15 days in Japan :) We should have done more nights here! There is a free shuttle from Kagaonsen Station to the hotel and vice versa (check timings first and plan your route accordingly - lifesaver. We arrived kind of late so were concerned about dinner options, but there were some nice mom-and-pop eateries open in the vicinity and a Lawsons about 5 mins walk away. The breakfast buffet is worth it and delicious, the staff are warm and helpful. Our room came with an ensuite rotenburo and it was lovely starting the day with a private onsen experience; the room was very big for 2 people. The public onsens in the hotel are tattoo-friendly and if you want (and if available) you can walk 5 min to their sister hotel Rurikoh to try their baths too (but check with the staff first)! I am in love with Kagaonsen as a town and a lot of it is thanks to our stay with Hatori. Thank you for the amazing time Team Hatori and hope to see you very soon!

Lounge or bar in Hatori

The facility we enjoyed the most was their two public baths. It was super clean and because we went during the off-peak season it was very empty. It was so relaxing and I feel very purified. The location was really good - there are shuttle uses that take visitors from the station to the hotel. It’s right in the town centre, and you can walk to local shrines and shops etc. We also randomly tumbled into many amazing local restaurants so beside onsen there are also a lot to explore!

Restaurant/places to eat in Hatori

Onsen. Dinner and breakfast were superb. My kids didn’t quite like the traditional Japanese kaiseki meal but they like the ala carte menu. Breakfast has a wide selection of Japanese food and some western option like sausages and bread. Private onsen was easy to book and is a good option for family. Room size was great. Kids really love the experienced staying in ryokan style room.

Lobby or reception in Hatori

My boyfriend and I have stayed at a total of 4 hotels in Japan but Hatori was our most favorite one. We read reviews saying the hotel looks old with old carpet, but honestly its really charming! We got the buffet breakfast one day and everything was so delicious -- the curry, fried fish, vegetables. We have tattoos so we weren't able to go to the public bath but we did have an open air bath in our room which we loved!! The amenities are so great too. I love that we got to choose our own yukata and there are free drinks (coffee, tea, house kombucha) for after you bathe. The vending machines are the best too, with water, tea, coffee and alcohol too! We also got in room massages which was great. The staff is super nice too, helpful, and very good at English! I forgot my key in my room once and they were super kind to help me out! The location is good because there are some eating spots around -- just be mindful that most of them do not have an English menu (pointing at Google review photos was helpful for us). Lawson is the only conbini around maybe a 10-15 minute walk. We really miss our stay here as it made our first Japan trip so memorable! Can't wait to come back again and try out the kaiseki meal in the room too!

Facade/entrance in Hatori

Staff were very friendly despite speaking limited English. We had the suite with an open air bath tub, the tub filled up quite quickly considering the size, nice view over the city. Breakfast was fantastic, early though, 7-9am. Onsens were nice and clean. Had a massage too, was fantastic. We booked in advance their transfer service between the station and hotel, service was on time and friendly

Lounge or bar in Hatori

I booked a room that doesn't come with a bathroom so I thought there might be a sharing bathroom for the guests to use. Apparently not lol. The room comes with a small toilet, yukata, TV, separate seating are. The room is cosy though. It has a souvenir shop so you can get some of the local souvenirs easily.
